The Nichols 45 Automatic Cap
Gun is one of those toy pistols that Uncle Talley (almost) swore that he would
never make. He preferred toy guns to be those of the old west—at least the
nineteenth century. However, towards the end more modern "firearms" were
made.

This is basically a Colt M1911A that is
small enough for the little kids that were likely to want a cap pistol. Nothing
fancy, just basic "personal self-defense." The price is usually low when
bidding ends on the internet auctions.
Here's the
same gun, but this version was made during the Kusan years after Uncle Talley
left the company. You can see how it is inferior to the one above, as were most
of the Kusan versions of Nichols Cap Guns, though it does have some nice
scrollwork. Pity. It's hard to imagine taking really nice Cap Guns and then
"dumbing them down" to save a buck. No wonder they haven't held their values
like the "purely Nichols" versions. Of course, I am QUITE prejudiced!!!
As is
typical of many of the Kusan versions, you will note that it doesn't have the
standard Circle "N" on the grip, nor does it say "Nichols" anywhere on it. At
least not on this side, for I have never taken it off of the card. I
photo-edited the orange price sticker off of this photo, which said 77 cents.
As you can imagine, I paid more than that for it at auction.
