Here's a good close-up of the right grip where we can see that no attempt was made to conceal the nut that holds the grips (and the gun) together.

In the days before World War II the quality of the toys was not as advanced as after the war. Later, when advanced die-casting came along, then lightweight alloys like zinc alloy were used to great effect.
