This Buccaneer is absolutely one of the cutest Cap Guns ever made! In my neighborhood it caused quite a sensation. It would fire bullets! The flintlock mechanism always worked (unless you got a "fizzle" from a cap) and the bullet would fire. It came in the standard dark brown and also a blonde stock.

This is a very rare photo of an original card sold in stores.

If you will look very closely at this photo, you will see the little ramrod that was stored under the barrel. Folks, this ramrod might just be the rarest thing in the world. Right up there with frog hair. I don't think that I have ever seen one on an internet auction. And I have looked!

This Cap Gun sold for the low price of $ .98 and was worth it.
There's kind of a funny story to go with this particular gun. In the original design Nichols Industries wanted an exterior cap-fire solution that was similar to the original flint lock, with the hammer coming down on the cap holder. However, they were not sure if it would have enough power to fire the red pellet out the barrel. The cap has a vent to the inside of the barrel. Upon the initial test, it not only had enough power; it had too much power and would knock a window out. They had to relieve the barrel and increase the venting to try to reduce the force until it did not hurt when it was fired.

A rare gold Buccaneer. Note the VERY RARE little ramrod!!!

I have to think that this particular Buccaneer is rare, for it has the non-standard blonde plastic stock. I had never seen one before, but I bought it on an Ebay auction. True, the flash pan is broken and there is no ramrod (as usual!!!), but I am quite happy to own one! You will notice that the metal has been blued also!

I don't know about YOUR neighborhood, but when this cap gun came out and we noticed the "antique look" and that it fired BULLETS, then everybody just had to have one.

However, we quickly lost a lot of those little red pellets and then had to buy more. Then we lost the little ramrods and had to use a match stick. So, if you find those little ramrods anywhere, please contact this author!

A close-up of the flash pan area with the pan raised, awaiting a cap. This one has been fired quite a lot.

The regular Buccaneer. And another ramrod. Why can't I find any of these?

Thank you Robert Nichols!

Thank you Robert Nichols!

Here's the Heirloom Dueling Set by Nichols. The box is what makes this set. Without the box, it's just 2 Buccaneers, but with the box??? Man, it gets expensive in a hurry.

Thank you Bill Zide!
